Insert something really funny here

I was reading a blog the other day that noted how people are not writing blogs as much any more, because they have other things like Facebook, Twitter, etc. I'm afraid that is true. I mean, first of all, there was always the fad aspect of blogs to begin with. You know that lots of people just started a blog because it was the latest thing, the same way they made a homepage on Geocities a few years before, with photos of their cat. Now the trend has moved on those other sites.

However, there's a very good reason people go to those other sites instead. For one thing, there is not as much worry about "what do I say?" because you can just write something short about your day, or some video you saw, or some short observation about life. For some people (not gabby ones like me), it is a lot less pressure. Also, you don't have to try to remember what happened to you all week, you just type NOW what happened.

The other reason, and probably the most important, is that those sites are more interactive. They are called "social networking" for a reason. Think about it. I type in my blog, and maybe a few of my friends and relatives come here sometime to check it out, and maybe they leave a comment. Unless my blog has a lot of information that thousands of people want to read (like political insights or entertainment gossip or gluten free recipes), then I am not likely to get lots of traffic. People are lazy and like to just surf a few sites that they know, like, and trust, and they just don't have the time to go looking for new blogs to read. After a while, you get information overload, not to mention worrying about popups, viruses, etc. Facebook and Twitter are right there, in one browser window, and you never have to leave. Your friends and family are all there (if you are lucky), and they can read everyone at once. They don't have to leave that page (or their phones or iPads) to go looking for a blog.

Also, with the commenting, I think a lot of people don't like commenting on blogs unless they feel they have something really important to add. Yet, on Facebook, people have no problem commenting on your post. I don't know why that is, but it is. So you get a lot of actual conversation on your Facebook page about whatever your post was. Oh, and also, blogs are a lot longer, usually, so they take more time to read.

However, I don't think blogs will ever be completely dead, just like I don't think personal websites like mine will ever be dead. There are always people who prefer that particularly type of thing. It's just that more people, I guess, prefer Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. because of the reasons above.

I do this myself, I post often on Twitter and Facebook, and I forget to come here, and before I know it, a month has passed, and I have forgotten what all has gone on in my life. It's terrible. I will try to do better, particularly for those of you FEW weird people who are not on Facebook or Twitter. You know who you are!

More later this week...I promise!

Don't forget to check out my TV Blog, too!

Have a great week...

I enjoyed reading about your routine. I have been blogging over on Soulgarden.tv and am being kept very busy. That's why you don't see my blogs here. I have a couple ideas but some new things are coming so I'm waiting for them to be in place, then I think I'll blog more here too. IF I have time!! Not lazy, just time!

Do you enjoy the change of seasons? Living in CA most of your life you wouldn't have that there would you? I love the changes. The weather was always so much the same in Fla except for hurricanes and the afternoon monsoons in the summer.

I cannot imagine going through all the DVD's that you do. But happy you love your work and your site!

Take care, Maurie
