August already!

We're finishing up a short weekend vacation in Atlanta. The only bad thing is that while I remembered to bring my laptop, I forgot my power cord! Again! I need to start keeping the extra one in our suitcase, clearly...

Right now I am in the Sheraton lobby. Fortunately they have about 5 computers for guest use. It's not the same as having my own, though. For one thing, I can't work on my site. For another, I can't get into Twitter or Facebook (AGH!) because I don't remember my passwords. That's the problem with using really high security nonsense letters and numbers for your password!!

There also seems to be a problem with one of my email accounts - the one that gets all my tvmegasite.net email. My webhost set it up in some special way so that it goes to a different gmail account. I can login but there are no messages since Aug. 6 (which is highly unlikely), so I think they are stuck on the server or something.

Nothing like being forced to unplug! Well, mostly, anyway. So when we are not out doing something, I have been reading or watching TV. It's been very relaxing, but I feel very guilty and I have a ton of work waiting for me when I get home.

Friday evening we drove here after David's work. It's about an hour and a half from our house to the airport in Atlanta. We are staying at the Sheraton near the airport. It's a very nice hotel, very luxurious. Sheraton's are usually pretty nice. I love staying in nice hotels - to me that is a good vacation.

We had dinner here at the hotel, then later took a cab to this Irish pub calle Fado for some drinks and dessert. We had the world's worst cab driver! I would think the number 2 thing you need to know, in this job, after how to drive, is where things are! And if you don't know, you have someone you can call, that knows (or you have access to GPS or Google maps). This guy had none of that. He did call someone, but they couldn't help him. Bare in mind, this place has been around for years, so it's not like finding some new or unusual thing. He overcharged us, too. Oh, and worse, he didn't stop the meter when he stopped to ask for directions!! Well, we saved money on the tip, I guess. But otherwise we had a nice time there.

I didn't really sleep at all that night because my sleeping schedule has been so messed up and weird lately. I finally saw Sherlock Holmes (on our hotel room TV). I loved it, as I knew I would.

We had breakfast at the hotel, then we drove out to this historical thing that my MIL wanted to see. Well, we tried but couldn't find it. It is the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield- we found the field but not the visitor center where you get information and all that. It looked to be closed, if we saw the right sign. We did a lot of driving around. We also stopped at McDonald's later on. We went to Whole Foods, and I picked up quite a few gluten free foods. I found some good frozen gf donuts, so that was great. I also got some cheese and garlic olives, which I had later for dinner.

David went to a Braves game while I slept. I pretty much conked out. I watched a little TV after I ate my olives, cheese, and donuts. He returned and we went to the hotel restaurant for a late snack. I had a chicken cobb salad. They have pretty good in the hotel, I have to say.

I finished my book, The Girl Who Played with Fire. The first book was very good, but this second one was even better. I read the first one about a month ago. The first 35 pages is deadly dull, but it gets way better after that. My only complaint about the second book is that it ends very abruptly, after the heroine gets shot in the head! I can't wait to read the third one, though.

I bought another book in the hotel gift ship, a James Patterson novel. His are always fun to read. I finished that one last night.

I know it doesn't sound like a very exciting trip, but it was fun, and relaxing...nice to get away for a weekend. We will be driving back in a few hours. I woke up about 5 am after finally getting caught up on my sleep.

Atlanta is ok...they have some good restaurants and things to do. I wish we had time for karaoke. I could have gone Friday but I wasn't really in the mood so much. I found out they have a 24 hour diner with karaoke. That should be interesting. Maybe next time!

Last weekend was our 28 year anniversary. We went out for a nice dinner. There is this place downtown we had not been to before, called something like Getchiss House (that's not the right spelling). The restaurant only goes back to the 70's, but the upper part is an old house from the 1700's that they moved over from Norway. It has some pretty stained glass windows. The food was very good. It's the kind of place you go to for special occasions or to impress someone. We enjoyed ourselves. I think I had veal oscar.

We also went to karaoke Saturday night at the place I usually love, Sports Page. It was not as good as usual. Different KJ who was not as nice or fun, and he took forever to start, then he had technical problems. So I only got to sing twice. Also, once of the songs I did, the version was really awful, so I did not sound that great. Hopefully next time will be better. I did have fun, though, anyway, just not as much as usual.

We are still unpacking and settling in our new house. I just finished going through all the boxes in the dining room. That is where I had all our tapes and other media. I have about 70 boxes of video tapes, so that's over 5,000 tapes. I am going to try to replace them with DVD's as much as possible because they just take up so much room. We are going to get some nicer boxes (like plastic or something) to keep them in and move them to various spots around the house, out of the dining room for the most part. My next job is to go through the rest of the boxes, which are in the garage. Joy!

Gotta run!
